Abstract

Today, the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) is considered one of the
most effective teaching/learning methods. It is oriented toward the ability to act in real
situations with the aim of integrating learners into society, preparing them for professional activities, or for further academic study. Beyond the activity usually required in
active methods, CBA particularly aims to deepen the engagement of both learners
and teachers. As is the case in secondary education institutions in Mali where CBA has
been integrated into the curriculum, the MAARIF Schools of Türkiye in Bamako are
expected to train their teachers in this new teaching/learning method, in compliance
with the relevant regulations. In this context, we have focused on the use of CBA in
History and Geography, with the goal of training teachers from MAARIF Schools of
Türkiye in how to apply CBA in classroom situations, improve teaching practices, and
redefine the roles of teacher and learner within this approach. This training module
provides a brief summary of CBA as applied to History and Geography, including the
development of correction grids, sequence planning sheets, and examples of complex
learning situations. Finally, this module enables History and Geography teachers at
MAARIF Schools in Bamako to better understand CBA and apply it effectively to boost
student achievement.
